About Styles of Parenting & Me

optimizedtrista

Hi there! Welcome to my website. I'm Trista, and I'm thrilled that you're here. I'm passionate about parenting and excited to share my knowledge and advice with you.

Parenting, as you probably know, is a journey filled with twists, turns, and a surprising amount of joy. I have been on this journey for the last four decades and I've gathered a wealth of experience and knowledge that I'd like to share with you, with the hope that it will lighten your own parenting path.

This website is not just a business to me; it's a dream. It's my way of reaching out and communicating with parents like you. Consider this a place of comfort, a source of advice, a sanctuary to other parents looking for a little assistance and loads of heart.

You see, parenting advice is not just about doing things right; it's also about celebrating the journey — laughter, tears, messes, and all. It’s about receiving joy from chaos, finding patience in turmoil, and motivating each other to continue, even on those particularly, seemingly endless days.

Knowing exactly how important it is to have relevant and practical advice while parenting, I've committed myself to provide just that. My singular goal? Making sure that you always find beneficial and empowering suggestions for your parenting journey here.

Personal Experiences

In all of my personal experience, I bring to the table a couple of professional credentials. Working as a counsellor for disabled adults and later a preschool teacher. I’ve had the opportunity to interact with countless parents, each with their unique kids and equally unique parenting conundrums.

Side Note: As you may well have figured out, my certificates are old and faded. You really can't even read them so you'll just have to take my word for it. I received my social worker's diploma in 1984 and later went back to school and received my ECE diploma in 1990.

Parenthood

Yes, I finally became a parent. I learned that I would be unable to have children of my own, so my husband and I decided to adopt. Going through an adoption agency would have come at a significant cost, so fostering seemed like the right path for us.

There were so many children in need of a loving home, and fostering offered an opportunity to adopt. Also, this way we would have the chance to know if we were all compatible or not.

In 2001, I became a foster parent and began fostering two beautiful little girls, 8 mon and 2yrs. Several months later, we were asked if we wanted to adopt them. We wholeheartedly embraced the opportunity and became a forever family.

Back in my early days of parenthood, I had a head full of questions, a heart full of curiosity, and hands full of baby diapers. Fast-forward all these years later; I’m now a 'been there, done that' parent of two wonderful girls who are soaring their way into a successful adulthood.

When it comes to my style of parenting, think 'determination meets love'. Yes, raising two children wasn’t always a walk in the park. It required effort, work, patients, learning, and a big heart. But isn't that what parenting is all about?

Today, my girls are in their twenties, and they make me incredibly proud every day. Through the years, I've learned to be grateful for the ups and downs of parenthood. They taught me lessons, made me stronger, and filled me with stories that I’m excited to share with you.

My path of adoption and fostering came with its own set of unique challenges and blessings and it has shaped my perspective on parenting. It is this experience that drives me to share my stories, advice, and recommendations with others in similar situations.

Let’s Do This!
